18 WTF Moments From Sausage Party

13. Arabs V Jews

Sausage Party WTF
Columbia Pictures

It's hard to tell whether Israel or Middle Eastern countries are going to be the most outraged at Sausage Party. On initial reflection, Lavash is the more controversial character in comparison with Sammy Bagel Jr (and could very much be used as "evidence" of any anti-Arab agenda if you really wanted to), but it all evens out.

The bagel is the archetypal neurotic Jew character and even sounds like Woody Allen in comparison with Lavash's more abrasive, ruder character. But the film uses their relationship to criticise the conflict in Gaza and Israel (a dangerous thing to even comment on these days, particularly if you're trying to sell something), and they both come off as petulant.

It's very clear that Goldberg and Rogen don't care who they piss off - including their own faith group. And as a final f*ck you to the Gaza-Israel conflict, and a very obvious attempt to get some heat, Rogen and Goldberg end the climax of the film and kick off the sexy olympics by having Lavash and Sammy Bagel Jr turn their friction into sex themselves.
