20 Action Movies From The 21st Century That Didn't Actually Suck
3. Fast and Furious 5, 6 and 7 (2011-2015)
For a series that was in real danger of going out with a whimper after the poor second and third entries, the three most recent Fast and Furious movies are now regarded as blockbuster entertainment of the highest quality, reinventing the former street-racing saga as one of the world's most lucrative and popular action franchises.
While it was the fourth movie that reunited the original cast, it wasn't until Fast Five that the franchise found its formula for success; a sprawling, diverse close-knit ensemble cast that were as comfortable sparring physically as they were verbally and massive-scale action sequences that defy the laws of physic, gravity and logic have seen the Fast And Furious series produce three of the most purely entertaining action movies of recent years.
In the space of just three movies, respective directors Justin Lin and James Wan have delivered some of the most awe-inspiring set-pieces in the entire genre; Fast Five's train chase and bank heist, Fast And Furious 6's tank sequence and infinite runway, along with Furious 7's skyscraper jump and skydiving cars are all expertly-staged moments of over-the-top vehicular mayhem that sees the long-running franchise forced to outdo itself with each movie.
