20 Action Movie Sequels Since 2000 That Don't Suck

Plotted like a thriller, albeit one with exploding hover-carriers and flying superheroes, The Winter Soldier has it all: assassins, betrayal, and Jenny Agutter using her fists.

For all the technology on display, the movie is pretty old-fashioned in its storytelling, using a conventional man-on-the-run story line. Directors Joe and Anthony Russo know this so, in a nice touch, they cast Robert Redford as Cap's onscreen nemesis. Redford knows all about turning fugitive in order to evade assassins, having done so decades earlier in 3 Days Of The Condor.

The action's good too, particularly the high-tech car chase, which is nearly enough to make you forgive the “twist” that Nick Fury – just like Samuel L Jackson’s character in XXX 2: The Next Level – isn’t really dead.
