20 Actors That Were Almost Cast In The Lord Of The Rings
9. Daniel Day-Lewis - Aragorn
As is no doubt the case when you're regarded as one of the greatest actors of all time, Daniel Day-Lewis' name is at the top of many casting wishlists. Renowned as one of the most committed and dedicated names in the business, Day-Lewis is also one of the most selective after appearing in just seven movies over the last 20 years, so it's hardly surprising that he declined an offer to star in a blockbuster fantasy franchise. Peter Jackson reportedly offered Day-Lewis the role of Aragorn as far back as 1997, when the project was in the first stages of pre-production but was turned down. The director's first choice for the character, he approached the actor several more times, only to see the offer declined each time. In late 1999, it was reported that Day-Lewis had yet again been offered the part with a healthy financial incentive, but when this was again rejected the filmmakers finally accepted defeat. While admirably aiming high with the casting choice, it should have been pretty obvious to all concerned that Daniel Day-Lewis is an actor that can't be bought.
I don't do social media, so like or follow me in person but please maintain a safe distance or the authorities will be notified. Don't snap me though, I'll probably break. I was once labelled a misogynist on this very site in a twenty paragraph-long rant for daring to speak ill of the Twilight franchise. I stand by what I said, it's crap.
