20 Actors We Lost In 2024

6. Teri Garr

The Mandalorian Carl Weathers
Columbia Pictures

Teri Garr was a comic actress and singer best known for her luminous performance in Mel Brooks' Young Frankenstein and her Oscar-nominated turn in the terrific Tootsie.

Elsewhere, she made an impression in Steven Spielberg's Close Encounters of the Third Kind and the Michael Keaton vehicle Mr. Mom, while also appearing in The Conversation, The Black Stallion, One from the Heart, After Hours, and Dumb and Dumber.

To younger audiences, Garr is surely best known for her three-episode stint on Friends as Phoebe's (Lisa Kudrow) birth mother.

Sadly Garr's career was cut short by a 2002 multiple sclerosis diagnosis, which ultimately prompted her to retire in 2011.

Teri Garr died on October 29, 2024 at the age of 79.
