13. Ryan Gosling - Jim (28 Days Later)

Danny Boyle's 28 Days Later introduced the world to Cillian Murphy with its tale of an incurable virus run wild in the UK, turning its victims into rabid, psychopathic murderers. Murphy played Jim, a bicycle courier for an unknown company. One day, while he is delivering a package he gets into a bike accident, leaving him comatose. When he awakens, all hell has broken loose. Murphy wasn't the first choice to play the character -- the role was first offered to Ryan Gosling, who had to decline due to scheduling conflicts. Murphy must have been thankful for this bit of good fortune seeing as though his career pretty much took off after this film. The actor went on to star in everything from Breakfast On Pluto to Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight trilogy. Gosling hasn't done so bad for himself either.
