20 Actors Who Just Gave Their Best Performance Ever

19. Mark Hamill - The Life of Chuck

Though few would single Mark Hamill out as one of the better actors in the original Star Wars trilogy, he's grown tremendously as a performer in the decades since, both through his iconic and widely celebrated voice acting roles (namely as DC Comics' Joker in Batman: The Animated Series), and his more recent comeback in the live-action sphere.

And 2025 has blessed us with not one but two great Mark Hamill roles in Stephen King adaptations, both as The Major in The Long Walk, and then as Albie Krantz in Mike Flanagan's The Life of Chuck.

Hamill appears in flashbacks as a younger Chuck's grandfather, and in addition to being scarcely recognisable, brings a delightfully paternal warmth to a flawed but likeable character.

For while Albie isn't always easy for Chuck to be around, he ultimately means well, and Hamill elucidates that quite perfectly.

It's a performance that might've gotten actual awards attention if Neon didn't bungle the film's theatrical release so spectacularly this past summer.

And if that isn't enough praise, Hamill's own wife Marilou also says it's her favourite of all her husband's performances.
