20 Actors Who Just Had Awesome Comebacks

10. Daniel Day‐Lewis

Daniel Day‐Lewis is popularly regarded as one of our greatest living actors, and so there was enormous sorrow when the three-time Oscar winner announced that 2017's Phantom Thread would be his final film before retiring.

It was so uncommon for an in-demand actor of Day-Lewis' stature with no apparent health issues to stop acting at the "mere" age of 60, but he sure seemed like he meant it.

Then the world was shocked when Day-Lewis announced that he was coming out of retirement after eight years away from the screen to star in Anemone - a new drama directed by his son Ronan Day-Lewis and co-written by the father-son pair.

Now in fairness, Daniel Day-Lewis could've staged a comeback to read the phone book and people would be rapt, and while Anemone is hardly a great film, the sharpness of Day-Lewis' acting ability is as clear as it's ever been from first frame to last.

To simply have another of his performances to savour is enough, and better yet, he recently stated that he regretted ever announcing his retirement and hopes to act again in the future.

And with that, a million Paul Thomas Anderson fans crossed their fingers that the two might get to make one more collaboration.
