20 Actors Who Turned Down Major Movie Roles

11. Anne Hathaway - Alison (Knocked Up)

Hugh Jackman Bond
Warner Bros.

Knocked Up was released in 2007, Judd Apatow's creative follow-up to The 40 Year Old Virgin. It follows characters Alison and Ben after their one night stand ends in a shock pregnancy. It's funny stuff, with strong performances from Seth Rogen, Paul Rudd and Leslie Mann.

Katherine Heigl plays Alison, and may not have been the best choice. She was a touch wooden and unexciting, and has voiced her displeasure over the years about the role and the film as a whole.

Originally, Heigl wasn't considered. Apatow wanted Anne Hathaway in the role, but the more esteemed actress turned it down for two reasons: there was nudity she said didn't appeal to the story, and she didn't feel a connection the mother aspect of the plot.

Despite this, it's safe to say Hathaway would have made a better Alison, but we can only now imagine the kind of character she would have brought us. I mean, it wouldn't have been as bad as her Oscar hosting, would it?
