8. Button Names Crtypically Hint At The Plot - Alien
At the climax of Alien when Ripley is preparing to abandon ship, she punches in a code and the instrument panel is clearly visible for a moment. While it wasn't particularly clear on the DVD version of the movie, the Blu-ray provides enough detail that it's easy to see that the buttons on the panel have mostly been given seemingly nonsensical names, which are in fact referential to a number of seemingly random things. For instance, there's "PRANIC LIFT 777" ("prana" is Sanskrit for "life force"), "LINGHA" (the Hindu deity Shiva, which is itself a reference to death), "YONI" (Sanskrit for "womb", which is self-explanatory), "SHAKTI EXCESS" (Shakti refers to "divine feminine creative power", which is clearly referring to Ripley), "AGARIC FLY" (a hallucinogenic type of mushroom), and to the left of this button, appropriately enough, there's "TRIP". This Easter egg was truly a long con, considering how it wasn't realised in its full glory until the movie was released in HD a few years ago.
