9. "LV 223" Is A Biblical Reference To Leviticus - Prometheus
One of the major bones of contention for Alien fans is that Prometheus wants to have it cake and eat it: it wants to make money off the Alien name, but it also wants to distance itself from the mythology of the franchise. As such, many were disappointed when it turned out that the movie didn't take place on the same moon, LV-426, as the Space Jockey and derelict ship were later discovered in Alien. Rather, despite a very similar series of events taking place, Prometheus takes place on another moon, LV-223. It's been theorised by fans, however, that LV-223 is a reference to the biblical verse Leviticus 22:3, which says, "Say to them, 'If any man among all your descendants throughout your generations approaches the holy gifts which the sons of Israel dedicate to the LORD, while he has an uncleanness, that person shall be cut off from before Me; I am the LORD.'" It doesn't take a genius to work out how this quote ties into the plot of Prometheus, so it seems almost certainly intentional.
