20 Awesome 80s Movies Which Defined Our Childhood

7. Ferris Bueller's Day Off

Paramount PicturesParamount PicturesWe might have been too young at the time to drive a car ourselves - let alone live in the kind of world where our friend's dad has a sparkling classic car sitting in the garage waiting for us to "borrow" for the day - but that didn't stop us fantasizing about bunking off school for the day and hitting the city, just as Ferris Bueller (Matthew Broderick) does in Ferris Bueller's Day Off. A list of great 80s movies would be incomplete without a nod towards the King of Teen Comedy John Hughes and Ferris Bueller's Day Off is as suitable a choice as any. The only people who didn't enjoy the concept of skiving school and going on an adventure are those who preferred to be at school, which, let's face it, was practically no one. Bueller's on screen joie de vivre was so infectious that some of us couldn't help but dance around the room, while the mad dash through the neighbourhood gardens is one which more than a few of us got in trouble for trying to copy.
