20 Baffling IMDb Top 250 Placements You Won't Believe
3. Django Unchained
The Film:
Quentin Tarantino's high-profile Revisionist Western, which is a revenge story about a freed slave taking vengeance on some slave-owners holding his wife captured. The film picked up a couple of Oscars and several more nominations.
Placement: #60
Why It's Wrong:
We'll never be able to agree on Quentin Tarantino: he's got many devoted fans, but a lot of haters as well. Regardless of what you think of him, his films such as Pulp Fiction and Inglourious Basterds do deserve to be on the Top 250 given how much joy they've brought to many people. The exception is Django Unchained.
Django Unchained is possibly Tarantino's worst film. Disgustingly overlong, often soulless and not even as cool as some of Tarantino's other films, this is one worth watching for some great moments but the rest could easily be fast-forwarded.
The real thing that makes this being rated as one of the top 100 films of all time so stupid is that it's one of Tarantino's less popular works. Lots of people either dislike it or are heavily critical of the last 40 minutes, so both its inclusion and the sheer amount of hype always attached to it make no sense. It's a shame that it seems to be who directed a movie and who starred in it that dictates what ends up on the Top 250, instead of actual quality.
Where It Should Be: Ideally, not on the list at all. #225-#250 at the very highest.
