12. Reggie Jackson In Benchwarmers
Reggie Jackson has appeared as himself in many movies, but my personal favorite is Benchwarmers. Yes, it is a stupid movie, but I still laugh at just the sight of David Spade's haircut and moustache, and I think any situation where we're laughing at Spade without the pre-requisite self-loathing, or downright sympathy has to be counted as a win. Anyway, tired of his son being bullied, Jon Lovitz puts together a baseball team that consists of Jon Heder, David Spade, and Rob Schneider, the only one that actually knows how to play baseball. To prevent them from being completely humiliated, Lovitz brings in "Mr. October" to practice "the same drills he did as a kid," which includes smashing mailboxes with a bat and playing ding-dong-ditch. Hilarity ensues. 11. Vanilla Ice In Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II
I would be lying if I said "Ninja Rap" wasn't on my iPod. I'm pretty sure that every movie in the early 90's required a Vanilla Ice appearance or reference, but this is the only one to feature an "original" song, written spontaneously and very much on the fly by the great white rapper as the final set piece of the film unfolds in front of him. As the Turtles begin to fight, Vanilla Ice stands and watches in awe, as the Gods of Hip Hop align to drop a tasty new groove for Mr Ice to coolly spit some ill lyrics in praise of the heroes in a half shell. Snapping his fingers, he utters the immortal lines "Have you ever seen a turtle get down? Slammin' and jammin' to the new swing sound!" A classic was immediately born.
