8. Ethan's North By Northwest Suit - Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation
By now, the Mission Impossible series probably should have devolved into a straight to DVD affair starring a WWE actor or Ed Skrein instead of Tom Cruise, but it's testament to the little actor's commitment that it continues to rake in serious coin at the box office. Part of that is down to the ridiculous stunts he insists on doing, and part is the complexity in the writing, which has always been key to it not descending into another paint by numbers action series. The films also know their place in movie history, as Chris McQuarrie proved with a number of references in Rogue Nation, The best, and arguably the most subtle, was the design decision to dress Ethan in a suit based on Cary Grant's in North By Northwest for his plane stunt. And the majority of watchers would have entirely missed it.
