19. Picking Cotton - Get Out

There are so many ingenious Easter eggs hidden in plain sight in Jordan Peele's outstanding horror-satire, the best of which involves the means through which put-upon protagonist Chris (Daniel Kaluuya) is able to survive.

After being kidnapped and restrained in a leather chair in preparation for imminent brainwashing, Chris manages to pick clumps of cotton from the chair and stuff them in his ears, ensuring he doesn't hear the hypnotic commands and therefore allowing him to stage an escape later on.

The act of picking cotton will never not be associated with the slavery of black Americans, of course, and the delicious irony of such an act ultimately saving a black man's life is undeniably amusing.
