17. Wayne Gale- Natural Born Killers
Tarantino has pretty much disowned 1994s Natural Born Killers, as the final product of the film, that Oliver Stone directed, apparently barely resembled the script that Tarantino wrote. However Im going to take a guess that the loud-mouthed, self-centred, amoral, deranged Wayne Gale was a Tarantino creation. The reason why this character is one of my favourites in a film that is filled to the brim with memorable performances and eccentric weirdos is because of the brilliant performance of Robert Downey Jr. When people talk about RDJ and his rollercoaster of a career, the mid to late 90s are seen as one of his lows, as not only was he dealing with his terrible drug addictions, but the roles he was choosing werent very good, and the films that he was appearing in were forgettable at best. However, for me Wayne Gale stands out of RDJs downward spiral as a beacon of hope, showing how good an actor he always was, regardless of his personal troubles, and even now with mega-blockbuster characters to his name, like Tony Stark and Sherlock Holmes, Wayne Gale, with his giant hair, perfect Australian accent and spontaneous rants, still remains one of my favourite RDJ performances and Tarantino characters. Now all we need is for Tarantino to cast RDJ in a film he will direct!
