20 Best Foreign Movies Of 2016
9. My Life As A Courgette
Adapted from a children’s novel by French writer Gilles Paris, My
Life as a Courgette (or zucchini if you’re of the American persuasion) is a
touching stop-motion animation about a young lad who is placed in a foster home
after the sudden death of his mother. An enchantingly honest little film about
finding a family-like unit in the most unlikely of places, it’s a breath of
fresh in the Disney-Pixar dominated world of animation, and surprisingly the
first feature-length film from top Swiss animator Claude Barras.
It’s already received a whole host of accolades including the Audience Award and Cristal Award for Best Feature at the 2016 Annecy International Animated Film Festival and Best Animated Feature at the European Film Awards, and is currently on the Academy Awards’ shortlist for Best Foreign Language Film.
