5. Things To Come

Tale Of Tales
Les Films du Losange

Isabelle Huppert wowed critics again this year with her performance in French director Mia Hansen-Løve’s latest film Things to Come. She stars as Nathalie Chazeaux, a disillusioned philosophy teacher forced to re-examine her life after her career starts to wane, her husband leaves her, and her cantankerous, drama-prone mother dies. Yes, it’s a female midlife crisis movie but don’t be put off by that fact. Eat Pray Love this is not, but rather a poignant exploration of loss and aging featuring the kind of tour de force performance that only an actress as brilliant as Huppert can deliver.

Beautifully shot by cinematographer Denis Lenoir, the film scooped Hansen-Løve the Silver Bear Award for Best Director at the Berlin International Film Festival this year.
