20 Best Movie Moments Of 2016
6. Deadpool – Opening Credits
The opening credits of the long-awaited big screen version of Deadpool perfectly set the scene for what was about to come: a not to be taken too seriously comic book movie full of action, violence, pop culture references and meta, fourth wall-breaking laughs.
A beauteous use of bullet-time, the camera spans slo-mo around the minutiae of a scene in which Deadpool takes on a van full of bad guys. Defeating them via some very inspired moves including one guy getting tea-bagged by Deadpool and another receiving a very severe looking wedgie, the scene is crammed full of more Easter eggs than you can shake a stick at – Rob Liefeld’s name on a coffee cup, a Hello Kitty lip balm and a copy of People magazine with star Ryan Reynolds (a.k.a. the Sexiest Man Alive) on the cover, to name but a few. All the while, the credits flash up introducing cast and crew as things like A British Villain (Ed Skrein’s Ajax) and An Overpaid Tool (director Tim Miller), with the action perfectly matched to the strains of Juice Newton’s Angel in the Morning.
