This film about a new-age father's parenting methods won't be for all tastes, but it's hard to argue with the astounding quality of Viggo Mortensen's performance.

As a man shattered by the loss of his wife but soldering on for the good of his large clan of quirky children, Mortensen has arguably never been better, providing food-for-thought about how we parent our children, even if you probably won't (and probably shouldn't) agree with everything his free-wheeling protagonist does.

It's a shame that the Lord of the Rings star acts only intermittently these days, this being his first role since 2014, but at least he made sure it was a doozy.
