20 Best Movie Performances Of 2020

15. Elisabeth Moss - The Invisible Man

Aubrey Plaza Black Bear
Universal Pictures

Even had The Invisible Man been a far lesser film than it ended up being, we'd likely all still be singing the praises of Elisabeth Moss, an actress far too talented to give anything less than 110%.

But Leigh Whannell's reboot of the classic IP is an intelligent, socially conscious genre film elevated substantially by Moss' expertly calibrated performance as abuse survivor Cecilia Kass.

Moss does a fantastic job depicting Cecilia's fast-rising paranoia, conveying the nerve-jangling frustration felt by so many female victims who struggle to be heard.

Whannell knows as well as anyone that the camera loves Moss' expressive face, and makes the absolute most of it throughout this highly entertaining slice of mid-brow entertainment.

It's really tough to imagine anyone else bringing the frazzled energy to the film that Moss did.
