14. Jude Law - The Nest

Aubrey Plaza Black Bear
IFC Films

Sean Durkin's new psychological thriller focuses on an English entrepreneur (Jude Law) and his American wife (Carrie Coon) as they move to the English countryside with their children.

Jude Law has always proven himself a dab hand at playing superficially charming slimeballs, yet he's never done it better than in The Nest, making his character Rory O'Hara a fascinatingly detestable figure.

Though this is absolutely a film best watched without much prior knowledge at all, just know that Law's depiction of a man desperately trying to cling to his highfalutin lifestyle is both terrifically icky and thoroughly plausible.

It helps immeasurably, of course, that he's cast opposite Carrie Coon, who as his increasingly exasperated spouse Allison matches him every step of the way.

This is the finest work of Law's career, honestly.
