20 Best Movie Taglines Of All Time
18. Godzilla (1998)
The tagline: ‘Size does matter.’
Roland Emmerich’s Godzilla didn’t get a lot of things right, but at least the marketing was on the money.
The first teaser trailer, in which the giant reptilian casually stomps a museum display's T-Rex skeleton, was released a full year ahead of the movie’s premiere – commonplace these days, practically unheard of back in 1997 – in a foolhardy challenge to the Jurassic Park franchise. Indeed, the entire advertising campaign was fashioned around the notion that size does indeed matter.
All of which proved a little ironic as, despite the fact that Godzilla grossed close to $400 million worldwide and was one of the year’s most successful films, the bad taste was such that the mooted sequels never saw the light of day. And for that, we can all be thankful.
