20 Best Movies About The Movies Of All Time

7. Tropic Thunder

Hail Cesare

Ben Stiller's film within a film is a riot from start to finish, and filled with incredibly witty and observational commentary on the film industry.

After a group of popular actors are hired to star in a Vietnam war movie, they fail to realise where the safety of the shooting ends and the actual dangers begin as they cross into territory populated by drug dealers.

The best aspect of this film however, is the fake trailer montage within the movie that introduces the audience to the characters and the kinds of roles they're used to playing.

Stiller deftly takes aim at every conventional film often seen in theatres and it's glorious. From the repetitive action sequels that increase in drama and stupidity with each instalment, to the painfully unfunny comedies that focus on flatulence as a point of humour, to what is definitely intended to be an 'Oscar bait' film with pretentious music and theming.

It is easily the highlight as Stiller deftly conveys several film archetypes that are still in rotation today.
