20 Best Movies About The Movies Of All Time

2. Adaptation.

Hail Cesare
Sony Pictures Releasing

One of the most ingenious films ever made, Charlie Kaufman created a masterpiece analysing his own adaptation process instead of actually adapting the book he was commissioned to make into a film.

Adaptation is an insane experiment into what goes into the creative process and how that process won't always lead to positive results. Kaufman zeroes in on the difficulties of writing and the pressures of integrity a writer faces when looking at the far more successful and constantly churned out films that lack originality or flavour.

Writing his own fictional twin brother into the story that represents those temptations to sell out and just become a successful writer instead of a great writer perfectly illustrates the exhaustion and anguish that is going through Kaufman's mind.

A maddening commentary that comes across as a cathartic necessity for Charlie Kaufman's own piece of mind is truly one of the most unique films ever made and has to be experienced to be fully appreciated on all the levels it is operating on.
