Love or hate Ridley Scott’s Alien: Covenant, you’ve got to admit that Michael Fassbender’s dual performance as two very different androids was a highlight. As newer model Walter he’s duty-driven, gentlemanly and American but with David – who by contrast is creepy, megalomaniacal and British – Fassbender has crafted one of the best movie villains in recent memory.

He shines especially in a scene with himself that’s as sinister as it is brimming with sexual tension (well, tension of the homoerotic twincest variety that is) in which David is teaching Walter to play the flute and suggestively purrs “I’ll do the fingering” before planting a kiss on Walter’s lips.

Yes, the hot Fassbender on Fassbender action is random, weird and totally out of left field but there’s no denying that the scene is one of 2017’s most memorable and a welcome break from all the gory Xenomorph kills and alarming stupidity of the crew aboard the Covenant.
