20 Best Movies Of 2016
8. Sausage Party
When 2016's best films are discussed, Seth Rogen's animated R-rated comedy probably won't end up in many conversations, but it sure as Hell should.
A spirited, unapologetically over-the-top parody of Pixar movies, Sausage Party could have easily settled for making vulgar sausage and bun gags for 90 minutes, but Rogen dared to go further by essentially mounting the film as a satire of religious belief.
No target is off-limits and there's plenty of mockery to go-around, as Rogen serves up an imaginative, sometimes legitimately terrifying adventure that absolutely delivers on the dubious "promises" of its title.
Gleefully meta and stacked with an amazing voice cast, this is a breath of fresh air as far as animated fare goes, even if it will surely miss out on a Best Animated Feature Oscar nod (but Best Original Song, maybe?).
