16. Weiner

The Nice Guys
Sundance Selects

An almost unbearably intimate examination of former New York mayoral candidate Anthony Weiner's brutal fall from grace, this on-the-ground doc follows Weiner as his career is torpedoed by not one but two sexting scandals.

Weiner is a fascinating figure, a likable politician with some terrific ideas, but one felled by his own personal foibles and, honestly, his own stupidity. The media are also taken to task here for their coverage of the events, even if ultimately, the pic zeroes in on Weiner's own absorbing fallibility, which is equal parts tragic, hilarious and devastatingly human.

So ridiculous you'd barely accept it even as a piece of political satire, Weiner perfectly exemplifies the bizarre circus that is American politics.
