20 Best Movies Of 2018
13. Black Panther
There was perhaps only one other movie released this year that struck a chord with audiences as strongly as Black Panther, which categorically ended the argument on whether mainstream audiences are averse to watching movies with predominantly black casts (spoiler: they're not).
One of the most dramatically engaging and stylistically flavourful MCU movies to date, Black Panther did a fine job juggling the usual superhero shenanigans with a righteously angry commentary on historical imperialism and current concerns of a racially divided America.
Ryan Coogler once again proved his strong directorial flair with his smoothly controlled action sequences, even if the CGI didn't always live up to his vision.
Chadwick Boseman is a stoic, intense delight, though the show was categorically stolen by Michael B. Jordan's brooding, uncomfortably sympathetic villain Erik Killmonger.
Does the MCU still have a villain problem? 2018 finally made a firm argument that it actually doesn't.
