20 Best Movies Of 2020

19. The Invisible Man

I'm Thinking of Ending Things
Universal Pictures

Few could've ever expected that a reboot of The Invisible Man from one of the folks behind the Saw franchise would end up one of the most trenchant and thought-provoking genre films of 2020.

But Leigh Whannell confirmed himself to be an intelligent filmmaker who could produce incredible results on a miniscule budget with this shockingly lavish, brutally intense sci-fi thriller.

Yet as much as the film serves as a powerful commentary on abuse and the inability of women to be heard in modern society, Whannell's secret weapon is unquestionably Elisabeth Moss, who gives one of the year's finest performance as embattled abuse survivor Cecilia.

It's a rarest of mainstream high-concept movies which melds an attention-grabbing concept with a smart, revisionist treatment and an astonishing central performance.
