Jordan Peele's third feature may lack the biting social commentary of Get Out and Us, but it's still got something vital to say about the entertainment industry and our consumption of it.

Nope is Peele in full Spielberg mode for a spectacular, and often spectacularly creepy alien invasion yarn that's still quite unlike any you're likely to have seen before.

Dripping with eerie mood but still suffused with knowing humour, Peele's nimble-footed filmmaking manages to thrill, disgust, and amuse all at once, aided by a top-drawer cast, including Daniel Kaluuya, Steven Yeun, Keke Palmer, Michael Wincott, and Brandon Perea.

It's also by far Peele's most stylistically ambitious film, making terrific use of large format IMAX cinematography - courtesy of veteran DP Hoyte van Hoytema - to convey the terrific, terrifying scale of the situation.

And above all else, Peele's presentation of the alien itself is something few surely saw coming. One can't wait to see where he takes his filmmaking next.
