20 Best Movies Of 2022
18. RRR
The big international breakthrough film of the year was undeniably S. S. Rajamouli's absurdly entertaining action epic RRR.
Rajamouli's heart-on-sleeve blockbuster bromance doesn't give a damn about subtlety or restraint: it's an action-packed, ludicrously fun, visually bombastic tentpole in the best sense.
As undeniably awesome as the CGI-soaked action sequences are - and they certainly tout more soul and ingenuity than anything the MCU served up this year - it's ultimately the bro-tastic chemistry between leads N. T. Rama Rao Jr. and Ram Charan that makes this one sing.
If Indian action cinema is something of a punchline among Western audiences, RRR is a startling demonstration of how impeccably crafted and downright charming they can be. At even 182 minutes, it's a ceaselessly energetic film overflowing with invention.
