5. Youth
Batman Alum: Michael Caine Harvey Keitel and Michael Caine star as two best friends in this dreamlike meditation on what it means to grow old. There's not a whole lot of plot to work with - they vacation in the Alps and talk about all of the young people they know - but did I mention that this movie has Harvey Keitel and Michael Caine in it? Ok, good. Then we're on the same page about how awesome this already is. With just a few quick pinches of pretentiousness, Youth excels because of its spellbinding imagery and top notch performances from its lead actors. This is the rare occurrence where, as an audience, you can be entranced simply by the rhythm and sly beauty of Keitel and Caine's conversations. Have you ever wondered what it would be like to be a fly on the wall and listen in on your heroes' heart-to-hearts. That's essentially what Youth offers. Michael Caine's ability to move effortlessly back and forth between silly action fare and heartfelt dramas is nothing short of amazing. There's a wonderful musicality to his performance here, and he proves over and over that the role of Alfred was well below him.
