Lily Collins gives one of the year's most under-appreciated performances in this riveting drama about a young woman suffering with anorexia, something Collins herself dealt with a teenager.
Writer-director Marti Noxon ably draws upon her own experiences to create a wholly authentic examination of the pains and pressures of an eating disorder, with Collins' frighteningly visceral performance proving totally convincing.
Keanu Reeves is also great in an entertainingly subdued role as a doctor with an unconventional approach to treating his patients, and while the movie is fairly stripped-down from a stylistic perspective, it doesn't need showy visuals or overly dynamic direction to succeed.
Considering how few movies exist about eating disorders, this was a very welcome look into a struggle rarely seen by moviegoers.
