20 Best Netflix Original Horror Movies - Ranked
2. Gerald's Game
One of the all-time greatest Stephen King adaptations comes to us courtesy of Mike Flanagan, who took King's grim 1992 novel and transformed it into a wince-inducingly intense psychological horror film.
The setup is simple: Jessie Burlingame (Carla Gugino) and her husband Gerald (Bruce Greenwood) head to an isolated house for a kinky getaway, only for Gerald to drop dead of a heart attack while Jessie is handcuffed to their bed.
And so, the rest of the movie largely consists of Jessie being taunted by a vision of Gerald all while she attempts to remove herself from her situation. Gugino delivers a gutsy, career-best performance, and Flanagan's claustrophobic direction is absolutely first-rate.
You'll need a strong stomach to make it to the end without turning away in disgust, but the topsy-turvy ride is well worth it. Fantastic stuff.
