Without question the best Netflix Original that nobody actually watched in 2018, this film about a hunting trip in the Scottish Highlands gone wrong is one of the year's big surprises: an almost unbearably tense, brilliantly acted and gut-wrenching low-fi thriller.

Jack Lowden and Martin McCann are remarkable in the lead roles of two lads in over their heads, while director Matt Palmer milks the eerie Scottish setting for every drop it's worth, aided by Márk Györi's sharp cinematography.

Built upon a series of slow-building, escalating suspense sequences, Calibre is a fantastic example of what can be done with limited resources, and props to Netflix for scooping it out of obscurity.
