16. Paul Rudd - Scott Lang/Ant-Man

Spider-Man: No Way Home
Marvel Studios

On paper, Paul Rudd's casting as Ant-Man seemed to make a lot of sense and none at all. An actor long associated with raunchy comedies, there were murmurs doing the rounds wondering whether his humorous acting style could gel with the MCU's more dramatic qualities.

From the first scene of his 2015 debut, though, it was clear Rudd was a great choice to play laidback career criminal Scott Lang, who carries with him an endless wit and easy charm that's deftly countered by a vulnerable maturity.

Brought to life as a troubled crook who attempts to make amends for past crimes so he can spend more time with his young daughter, Rudd captures the confusion Lang feels when introduced to the superhero game with stunning bursts of comedy, but touchingly balances it with the sweet connection he has to his only child.

Rudd's ability to play Lang both as a comic relief and a flawed hero with a murky past is both hilarious and moving, and makes him an indispensable addition to the team.
