20 Best Performances In Superhero Movies
11. Patrick Stewart - Charles Xavier (Logan)
Patrick Stewart had an incredible tenure as Professor X throughout the X-Men franchise, and he ended up saving the best for last with his touching and ultimately heartbreaking performance as a broken-down Xavier.
Stewart gives us a vulnerable Xavier like fans probably never imagined they'd actually see, mentally deteriorated and an active danger to the world at large.
Still, thanks to Stewart's Oscar-worthy performance, the character's humanity is never in doubt, and his bond with both a raggedy Logan (Hugh Jackman) and young Laura (Dafne Keen) help give Professor X an ending full of pathos and heart.
Best Moment: Charles' devastating demise, where one moment he's telling "Logan" how he's had a perfect evening, and the next he's stabbed to death by the Logan clone X-24. At least Charles realises the truth before he unceremoniously pops off the mortal coil.
There's no overbearing sentiment here: just an ugly death for a beloved character, and Stewart plays it perfectly.
