20 Best Performances In Superhero Movies
4. Josh Brolin - Thanos (Avengers: Infinity War)
Performance capture is a tough art to master, hence why so few digitally-assisted superhero movie performances end up like Avengers: Infinity War's Thanos (Josh Brolin) rather than, er, Justice League's Steppenwolf (Ciaran Hinds).
The Russo brothers effectively made Thanos the protagonist of this almost unfathomably busy superhero film, digging deep into his past, his motivations and his view of the universe.
Brolin's weirdly soothing, booming voice and larger-than-life countenance - in conjunction with some state-of-the-art visual effects - helped make Thanos a surprisingly thoughtful and intriguing antagonist miles away from the generic world-destroyer he so easily could have been.
And the best thing of all? We've still only seen half the story.
Best Moment: Thanos makes the emotionally rattling decision to sacrifice his own "adopted" daughter, Gamora (Zoe Saldana), in order to receive the Soul Stone. How often do you see a tyrannical supervillain shed tears and it doesn't feel forced? Looking at you, Bane.
