20 Best Performances In Superhero Movies

15. Karl Urban - Judge Dredd (Dredd)

All Karl Urban had to do to improve upon Sylvester Stallone's much-reviled performance in the 1995 Judge Dredd was to keep his mask on and maybe tone down the chatting.

He certainly did both of those things, but also hewed far closer to the morally ambiguous nature of the comic book character, making his Dredd a seething, ultra-violent justice-bringer far from Stallone's more conventional, gung-ho action hero.

It's not exactly a glamourous role for an actor, to have the top half of their face covered by a bulky mask for the entirety, but Urban works the hell out of his chin, adopts a suitably gruff voice and delivers fully on the physicality of the role.

Best Moment: Dredd throws the villainous Ma-Ma (Lena Headey) to her death, but not before giving her a dose of the narcotic Slo-Mo, which will make her brain feel like she's been falling for minutes. Savage.
