Total Copies Sold: 2,961,203 One of only two films released before the advent of Blu-Ray to make this list, that The Lion King sits so safely in the top twenty says a lot about the lasting appeal of Disney's magnum opus. The animation still looks incredibly fresh (although a couple of bits have been touched up post-release, Lucas-style), the songs are among the studio's best and the story is one of their best reinventions of a classic (as well as Hamlet there's heavy elements of Biblical stories). A rerelease in cinemas, with the film retrofitted into 3D no doubt helped boost the sales, but that shouldn't reduce what an achievement this is.
