8. Catbus (My Neighbour Totoro)

What more needs to be said about the Catbus, other than the fact that it is a fusion of a cheshire cat and a school bus? This is undoubtedly one of the craziest and most surreal ideas in Miyazaki€™s oeuvre, but somehow it works brilliantly. While the Catbus isn€™t as popular as the titular Totoro, it is one of many reasons why My Neighbour Totoro is far and away the most widely-recognised and beloved Ghibli film. Who doesn€™t want to ride in the Catbus, with its headlights for eyes and its many limbs? Somehow Ghibli have managed to always succeed in creating creatures that, despite their weirdness, resonate with audiences in unexpected and wonderful ways. The Catbus exemplifies this.
