The robots in Castle In The Sky never speak, as with so many other figures on this list, but they are fantastic creations nonetheless. At Japans Ghibli museum, one of the key attractions is a life-size replica of one of the robots, showing just how popular these figures are with fans. They are very powerful, with the ability to destroy buildings with lasers, but they are also delicate and gentle. See, for example, the gorgeous scenes in which they are shown gardening or playing with small animals. These robots are at one with nature, and balance out their destructive capabilities with a love of all things innocent. Although not quite as popular as the ubiquitous Totoro, the Laputa Robots are a key symbol of Ghiblis success.
