20 Best Superhero Movies Since The Dark Knight

13. Deadpool 2

Deadpool 2 X-Force

Deadpool (2016) was good fun, but it wasn't the subversive work of genius that it thought it was. Once you take the R-rating and meta humour out of the equation, it was actually a pretty standard superhero flick.

In contrast, Deadpool 2 is that subversive, WTF superhero film that Deadpool (2016) wanted to be, and boy oh boy, is it satisfying. This time around, it defies expectations, gets far more out-there with its writing, and best of all, the story is actually pretty unusual for the genre (most notably, there's no villain in the traditional sense), so this one really does cash in on its promise.

Furthermore, it's one of the most joyously entertaining superhero films you could ever hope to find. The action sequences rock, the jokes are gut-burstingly hilarious, the plot is hugely entertaining and there's even a gentle emotional core running through the picture. And then, just when you think it can't get any better, it delivers what is honestly the greatest superhero movie credits scene EVER.

In general, Deadpool 2 is a blast and it takes the superhero genre to some of the most provocative, bonkers and fiendishly entertaining places it's ever gone to. It also reaffirms that the superhero genre is, when you think about it, possibly the genre with the largest number of sequels that outdo the original (there are a lot of examples of that).
