5. Saoirse Ronan
Best: Brooklyn (2015) Brooklyn's quality is all about its central performance, so it's lucky that Ronan delivered her best performance yet for a perfectly-observed embodiment of a character in transition. Through her eyes we see every stage of adaption to a new environment in artfully subtle fashion and are invited to experience the beauty and tenderness of her story in a way that is breathtakingly intimate and epic at the same time. Worst: The Host (2013) If you loved Twilight, there's a good chance you ate up this equally bloated, equally insistent supernatural tale from the same writer with the same gusto. For everyone else, it was a painful misstep for Ronan; a brain-dead, soulless sci-fi that seems to think it's infinitely more clever than it's ever able to prove. And that's genuinely the most positive thing to say about it.
