20 Best & Worst Movies From 2019 Oscar Nominees

19. Sam Rockwell

Fox Searchlight

Best: Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri (2017)

It took a while to get there, but Sam Rockwell has all of a sudden stopped being that guy who is excellent in everything but rarely gets the recognition, to a genuine, bona-fide awards darling. And long may it continue.

His performance as George W Bush is great in Vice, but it's not his best. His turn in The Green Mile is arguably a better individual performance and Three Billboards... sticks out even further. Frances McDormand may have got the lion's share of plaudits, but he's just as good as she was and deserved his Oscar win.

Worst: G-Force (2009)

Quite why Rockwell turned up in this animated guinea pig action movie (didn't know anyone wanted one of those, did you?) is anyone's guess, but you can't criticise actors for taking easier gigs like vocal work. It's just a shame this ranks down there with some of the worst dross Disney has put out over the years.
