20 Biggest Blockbuster Movie Showdowns Of All Time

20. The Final ... Face Off - Face/Off (1997)

Face/Off is undoubtedly the pinnacle of John Woo's Hollywood career. While the movie isn't as great as some of his earlier Hong Kong efforts, its a lot better than Mission: Impossible II and Paycheck, that's for sure. One of the greatest action movies of the 1990's enhanced by two demented scenery-devouring lead performances from John Travolta and Nicolas Cage, the climactic battle between Sean Archer and Castor Troy is classic Woo; packed to the brim with Mexican standoffs, gunfights, slow-motion, spectacular stunts and of course, doves. Woo has never been a director to resolve his action scenes via mere fisticuffs, and Face/Off takes the director's inimitable style to heights he had never reached before during his time Stateside in a jaw-dropping melee that begins at a funeral, takes to water in a stunning and explosion-filled speedboat chase that culminates with both characters being hurled through the air in spectacular fashion (with another explosion for good measure). If that wasn't extravagant enough, John Travolta tries to cut his own face off before finally being taken out by via a swift kick in the stones and shot through with a spear-gun. Quite simply, one of the most ludicrous final showdowns in movie history, but also one of the most entertaining as well.

I don't do social media, so like or follow me in person but please maintain a safe distance or the authorities will be notified. Don't snap me though, I'll probably break. I was once labelled a misogynist on this very site in a twenty paragraph-long rant for daring to speak ill of the Twilight franchise. I stand by what I said, it's crap.
