20 Biggest Movies Of 2015: What Do We Already Know?
11. Terminator: Genesis
Who's involved? After years of development difficulties and rights issues the fifth Terminator film is coming courtesy of Skydance Productions and Paramount. Director Justin Lin dropped out to work on the next Fast and the Furious film, leaving Game of Thrones and Thor: The Dark World's Alan Taylor to take over. Taylor's Game of Thrones Khaleesi Emilia Clarke has been announced to star alongside Jai Courtney (A Good Day to Die Hard), Jason Clarke (Zero Dark Thirty) and the Terminator himself: Arnold Schwarzenegger. Writer Laeta Kalogridis, a producer on Avatar and writer for the unproduced Battle Angel, has some connection with original director James Cameron so hopefully will respect Cameron's work. What's the story? Little has been revealed about the plot of Genesis so far, but it seems that it follows the current trend of franchises like Star Trek in being a reboot-sequel-remake mash-up utilising the franchise's time travel device to create an alternative timeline around a new Sarah Connor (Clarke) and Kyle Reese (Courtney). Clarke is the fourth John Connor in as many films and will appear in a portion of the film likely to be set in a future after previous episode Terminator: Salvation in which, rumour has it, Kyle will have to travel back to the time period of the original film for a plot taking place around the edges of that story, Back to the Future 2 style.
10. Ant-Man
Who's involved? The first film of Marvel Studios Phase 3 has been rumoured since the comics giant started producing their own movies and it has almost always been with director Edgar Wright's name attached. Wright is penning the screenplay with Attack the Block's Joe Cornish, who has experience of action adventure blockbusters thanks to writing Steven Spielberg's Tintin. Paul Rudd is attached to star alongside Michael Douglas with Michael Pena (End of Watch) and Patrick Wilson (Watchmen) also appearing in unspecified roles. Evangeline Lilly (Lost, The Hobbit) is widely rumoured to have been offered the film's female lead who may or may not be The Wasp. What's the story? With Rudd cast as Ant-Man himself, the appearance of Douglas in the cast as Hank Pym, the best known Ant-Man from the comics, raised a few eyebrows and suggests that Rudd will be playing the later incarnation of the character, Scott Lang, and that the film will feature Pym developing the Ant-Man technology and Lang assuming the role of the hero who can shrink to a minuscule size. Beyond that there have been no plot details revealed, but Wright has said that it is not a totally comic film but will have the same light tone as Marvel's Iron Man. One thing that won't play a part in the story is evil robot Ultron, villain for the second Avengers film which comes out before this.
