14. Professor Binns
In The Book
In arguably the most tragic backstory of all, Professor Cuthbert Binns taught History Of Magic until he died at a very old age in the staff room and then simply kept on teaching as a ghost. He's something of a joke, but it is he who teaches Harry about the legend of the Chamber Of Secrets.
In The Film
Apparently only a couple of lessons actually exist in Hogwarts - usually the glamorous ones including threats of violence or magical creatures - so History Of Magic and its ghostly teacher are simply cut entirely.
Was It A Positive Cut?
He would probably have required more CGI than the character was worth, but it seems like a fairly massive oversight that nobody in the movie world is interested in the History of Magic since it's full of important clues they would otherwise not have to spend their time finding out in libraries.
